What He Does at Thinkwell
Jason Kirkland is a numbers guy with a servant’s heart—someone who’s all in, whether balancing the books or brightening someone’s day. As Thinkwell’s Director of Finance (affectionately known as “Uncle Buck”), he keeps the wheels turning behind the scenes, ensuring everything adds up so the team can do what they do best.
Around Thinkwell, Jason is known for his quick wit and deep-rooted commitment to taking care of others. Whether he’s managing budgets, navigating financial details or bringing a little levity to the day-to-day, he approaches his work with precision, humility and just the right amount of humor. (After all, anyone who says the sound of a 10-key is “soothing as raindrops on a tin roof” is someone you want in your corner.)
Early Life
Jason grew up in McComb, Mississippi, alongside an identical twin brother in a household defined by resilience, faith and unwavering love. Raised by a single mother who worked and attended school full-time while also caring for Jason’s grandmother, he learned early on what it means to persevere. Resources were limited, but the lessons were lasting: Don’t quit when things get hard; lean on your faith and never underestimate the power of a supportive family.
As a kid, Jason spent his days running through the backwoods of southern Mississippi with his cousins, fueled by imagination and the kind of freedom that comes from an unplugged childhood. In high school, he balanced creativity and precision as both yearbook editor and the recipient of math awards galore. An Eagle Scout, he’s cultivated a lifelong love for camping and the outdoors—pastimes that serve him well in his volunteer work today.
Education and Career
Jason attended Mississippi State University, earning a degree in Business and Marketing. After college, he made a bold move to Los Angeles with dreams of breaking into the entertainment industry and found his footing in accounting, beginning with a role at Funny or Die. From there, Jason went on to work for Walt Disney Imagineering and eventually, Warner Bros. Television—his dream company—where he contributed to a slate of well-known productions, including The Rookie, Young Sheldon and the critically acclaimed medical drama The Pitt.
With more than a decade of experience under his belt, Jason brings a unique blend of entertainment industry insight, people smarts and financial expertise (plus a genuine passion for spreadsheets).
Personal Life
If there’s one thing to know about Jason, it’s this: He shows up. Whether it’s for his six nephews, his community or complete strangers in need of a little TLC, Jason leads with generosity and intention.
He’s a proud dog dad to three golden retrievers, all certified therapy dogs who join him in volunteering at hospitals, schools, senior living facilities and beyond. He’s also served for more than 25 years as an overnight counselor at Camp Rising Sun, a nonprofit that provides free summer camp experiences for children diagnosed with cancer. Today, he continues that work as a member of the organization’s Board of Directors, alongside additional leadership roles supporting pediatric oncology camps across North America.
When he’s not working, volunteering or nerding out over numbers, Jason finds joy in the simple things: early morning workouts, a strong cup of coffee, tending his yard and catching up on the latest TV shows (strictly for “research,” of course). After nearly 15 years in L.A., he’s embracing a quieter pace in Tupelo, Mississippi—proof that sometimes, the best chapters are the ones that bring you back to what matters most.
